Spammers target VoIP services

It seems that no one is safe anywhere, anymore.
Not satisfied that they have filled our e-mailboxes to full so that our own service is interrupted, now the bad guys are targeting the innovative VoIP services.
Businesses need to be on alert for these “spammers.” Today is the time for the companies to take action to prevent possible attacks. For most, the concentration up until now has been more on the voice quality and the functionality of the services rather than on the protection of the services. Security can’t wait.
The threats are real and they are now – from the annoyance caused by voice spam, which overwhelm networks with voice messages, to phishing, which uses the same voice spam to access personal information and steal identities. The future of the types and the purposes behind the attacks seem limited only by the imagination of the ones involved.
Even though no serious VoIP system attacks have yet taken place, the potential is still high and only gets higher with the addition of systems. Experts expect that within just two years, the security of VoIP will become a critical issue in everyone’s mind.
Companies must be aware of the attack potential today and the increased risk for the future, and prepare for those potentials while they are in the process of building their VoIP systems. The bad guys are not going to wait, and if the companies wait until the attacks begin, they may find they have waited too long.
