VOIP Business Users Need to Up Their Security

VOIP security is as valuable as a safe. It will keep information and communications locked up from the bad guys.

Very few business owners understand its importance. No one in his right mind would leave a cash register just sitting open, or a door unlocked to his business at night. Owners put bars on windows and install CCTV to protect their investments.

This diligence seems to falter when it comes to Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP). This technology hasn’t faced any attacks, so few people have thought of its protection.

Experts are warning this voice technology is just as vulnerable to exploitation as any other data communication. Business owners here about the email scams and the phishing, so they install firewalls and virus protection. The experts are predicting that it will take attacks of these types to wake up VOIP users to the dangers that are out there.

It will probably be a high profile situation like a hacker paralyzing a phone system and demanding a ransom, or hijacking phone numbers and using them for phishing scams. What ever the mode of attack, no one wants to be the poster child for what not to do.

Currently, the risk for a VOIP security breach is theoretically low. Hackers tend to go where the numbers are (like email) and VOIP subscribers are just not that high, yet. As the subscriber numbers continues to rise, so does the need for high tech security.
