VOIP Losing Ground?

VOIP may have already reached its peak. At least one blogger out there is making the case for just such a scenario – and he’s not alone.

There are many things that could cause the technology to peak before it seems its time has come. The number one thing in this instance is the control of the networks. At the very least, the last few miles of network are controlled by just two companies. Without a way to circumvent these companies, providers have no way to independently get to consumers.

The end user of VOIP is also affecting its growth potential. Many consumers expect a free service – since most providers into the market start this way to draw subscribers. When it’s time to pay up, they return to what they know.

Although VOIP is a great technology, it is not proving to be the viable business boom that many hoped it could be. It is possible that the fate of VOIP could still shift. If providers began to focus more on quality, consumers would be more likely to stay on even after the free service ended.

VOIP may have peaked, but it has also proven that the new world is internet technology. Consumers are looking to the internet for phone, television, research, shopping, and just about anything you can dream up.
