Problems with Skype’s VOIP

Skype is one of the world’s leading VOIP providers. As an innovator in the industry and one of the first to tap into the market, it is no surprise that it has such a strong market share.
There are some surprises to Skype’s VOIP services, though. The following surprises in the services are just a few of the things that could be hindering the growth of the internet technology.
When you call a land line using Skype VOIP then your number shows up on caller ID in an unusual way (say 0123456 . . .). People who have caller ID may not even answer your calls because of this fact. How many of us choose to ignore the calls from “unknown caller” or strange numbers. (That’s just one more curse of the caller ID technology, but I won’t go there today).
Skype VOIP does not have emergency calling service. That means you are forced to carry some other type of phone service in order to be covered by 911, which kind of defeats the purpose of having VOIP service in the first place.
It seems that Skype VOIP security is a secret, so there is no telling how it works or if it works. The security is a closed source, so you could be taking your chances using the service.
The biggest flaw in Skype VOIP is that a computer is required in order to be able to use it. With all the new phones systems being developed, this is one flaw that is not likely to stand for very long.
