VOIP in the Business Community

VOIP is drawing some of the business community, but they are not abandoning traditional telephone service as some experts initially predicted. Most companies are choosing to step into the new technology lightly, with almost half of them keeping the traditional service as well.

It is likely that the adoption of VOIP by businesses will continue to grow. This internet technology is well suited for a work force that is often spread throughout the world. It also allows employers to tap into a work force of at-home individuals (a growing pool of employees).

Although some of the larger businesses are finding their way into the VOIP technology, it is the smaller businesses that seem to be moving in that direction most strongly. VOIP allows smaller businesses to expand their employee and market bases without a large investment of resources.

In-Stat, a market research company that covers business IP telephony, recently released a study that shows a growing interest in VOIP among the business community. Its study predicts that as early as 2011, two-thirds of all businesses will employ some portion of the VOIP technology.

As the world continues to shrink because of VOIP and other internet technologies, businesses will have to shift and mold their structures to fit into the changing scene. The growing interest in VOIP, the development of better functions, and the increase in broadband IP telephone lines will only enhance the interests of the business community.
