VOIP Pioneer Vonage Still Fighting

Vonage customers are beginning to worry over the VOIP provider’s recent court losses. The last hearing on the current injunction was just one more nail in the giant’s coffin. Although Vonage is allowed to keep current customers (at least for now), the court order prevents the company from acquiring new customers.

Many current subscribers are preparing for the possibility that Vonage will be forced to shut down complete due to its patent infringements. Those looking for a new provider have to wonder if these recent patent rulings won’t reach deeper into the VOIP industry that just Vonage. If that is the case, will the smaller companies in the industry be able to survive?

Looking for a new VOIP provider is no small endeavor. The cable providers are solid and reliable, but don’t offer very many feature. Conventional telephone companies often offer a VOIP service, but don’t advertise or promote the service because of its direct competition to the wireline offerings.

The VOIP pioneer, Vonage, is not through fighting to maintain its place in the industry. It still has several appeals to go before its fate is sealed. In the mean time, current subscribers would be wise to search the field of providers to find a new home incase Vonage ultimately loses its fight and is forced to shut down services.
