Los Angeles based Fonality has launched a new hybrid hosted IP PBX offering and IP-based calling service which will lower the cost of voice calls for businesses with between five and 500 employees.

The company’s new trixbox Pro phone system, combined with its trixNet in-network calling service allows small businesses to make free calls using VOIP - calls over trixNet are not subject to any local or long-distance charges.

The service includes a range of free features such as auto attendant, music on hold, call hunting, e-mail and Outlook integration.

trixbox Pro is a hybrid-hosted phone system. The free software is downloaded by a business and installed on a local computer and local IP phones.

The local computer then connects to the Fonality network, which monitors server health, call quality and usage.

trixbox Pro securely extends the phone system outside the businesses firewall. This allows an employee to answer calls to their extension number wherever they are located, remotely on a laptop, or even on a mobile phone.

The free, Standard Edition of trixbox Pro can be upgraded for a fixed or monthly fee to one of two paid editions tailored specifically for the reseller market.

trixbox Enterprise Edition and trixbox Call Center Edition include features such as paging, intercom and conference bridging, which are required by larger businesses and professional call centres.

All versions are based on open-source Asterisk software. They are aimed primarily at computer consultants, systems integrators and VARs who can use the software to expand their product and service offering.
