DirecTV Group, a provider of satellite television services based in California, USA, has signed a wholesale distribution agreement with CURRENT Group that will allow it to offer high-speed Internet service and VoIP services.

The service, which will first be available in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area, will be available at the end of 2007 or early 2008. The deal will allow DirecTV to sell a bundle including DirecTV high-speed Internet and VoIP services. DirecTV will be able to add other geographic markets as CURRENT builds its network.

Through the agreement, DirecTV will have access to CURRENT's BPL (Broadband over Powerline) network that will cover about 1.8 million homes and businesses over the next several years.

DirecTV has more than 16.3 million customers in the US and throughout Latin America. The company provides broadband satellite networks and services via its core enterprise VSAT (satellite networking) business.
