Traditional telephone companies could be replaced by VoIP
by Lin Freestone

It has been suggested by the Communications Management Association that the days of the traditional telephone companies are coming to an end as voice over internet protocol (VoIP) is putting an end to their long dominance of communications.
Some organisations may be cautious of making the jump to VoIP, perhaps wanting assurances that they will still have rapid response times to calls, or perhaps they are still unsure of the security implications of a voice-data converged network.
The association suggests that business communications will increasingly be a blend of many IP-based applications and include text, graphics, video and other sensory enhancements. It is thought that customers may already be using VoIP unwittingly as it has been embedded into the core systems of many telecommunications companies.
The Communications Management Association is the UK’s premier independent membership body for professionals and organisations focused on exploiting communications, networking and ICT, for business advantage.
The association has been supporting telecoms and ICT professionals and organisations within private and public sectors for almost 50 years. Through its research and analysis, specialist forums, publications and events, it provides the assistance, information, training and representation so essential in an ever-changing business environment.
