Huawei has announced that it has successfully completed commercial technology testing for VoIP over HSPA, in conjunction with QUALCOMM.
The testing used Huawei’s UMTS/HSPA and IMS systems, and includ an all RNCRadio Network Controller) base and all IP transmission system, running on a QUALCOMM’s MSM7200 chipset.
It’s the industry’s first display of an ALL IP end-to-end solution that is based on a commercial chipset and IMS-based system platform.
High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) is mobile technology that allows mobile phone users access to high-quality multimedia, and is based on the 3GPP IMS standard.
To date Huawei has already demonstrated commercial applications in VoIP over CDMA(Code-Division Multiple Access), and VoIP over WiMAX(Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access), and passed interoperability testing with IMS(IP Multimedia Subsystem).
The move by Huawei promises to help provide wider access to VoIP services by mobile users, and offers the development of new business models in commercial VoIP service provision.
