A portable VoIP phone that uses WiMAX data communication was among the products on show at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The Congress, which featured exhibitors from Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, and is one of the largest mobile communications shows in the world, ran until February 14th.
The phone is compatible with All IP communication - including voice, IM and video - and also comes with mobile broadband capability, allowing users to access the web on the move through a WiFi connection.
The phone, which is a joint development by Japanese technology firms NetIndex and Kaga Electronics together with Israeli WiMAX chipset manufacturer Runcom Technologies, can also be used by businesses that have wireless solutions other than WiMAX, such as 3G and internal PHS.
Following the launch of the phone, NetIndex and Kaga Electronics have indicated that they may start work on a mobile broadband portable phone for the business market.
