Taiwan leads in volume production of VoIP products

Taiwan is emerging as one of the leading supply centres for VoIP products worldwide. The surge in production volume and value in 2007 is predicted to continue throughout 2008.
The export value of Taiwan’s VoIP gateways and IP PBXs with VoIP gateway functions was in the region of $73m in 2007. This was an increase of 73.8% over the figure of $42m in 2006.
The majority of VoIP gateways from Taiwan are for export. Most of these products are sold under the companies’ own brands in Europe and the Americas. Other makers also export to emerging markets such as Africa and the Middle East.
Following the popularity of VoIP applications, demand for VoIP products, including gateways, IP PBXs and phones is projected to continue to grow in 2008. VoIP gateways are forecast to dominate supply in the coming months, although many suppliers are also focusing on IP PBXs with VoIP gateway function.
Taiwan makers adopt SIP and H.323 protocols, but the majority of products now use SIP.
Taiwan’s output of VoIP gateways and IP PBXs with VoIP gateway function is expected to reach 3.42 million units in 2008, an increase of more than 76% over 2007. It is predicted that exports will reach 123 million units, a growth of 68.5% from exports in 2007.
Taiwan VoIP gateway makers are expanding their production facilities in mainland China and South East Asia in order to save on production costs. Research carried out by the Industry and Technology Intelligence Service shows that 90% of Taiwan’s enterprise and home network production was conducted overseas in 2007. The rest of the production was carried out in domestic factories.
