Colin Duffy, the chief executive of UK Voip provider, Voipfone, has highlighted the benefits that VoIP can bring to SMEs and students, claiming that these two groups are the clear winners from the new technology’s accelerating profile.
Duffy asserts that the advent of VoIP brings advanced telephony features to SMEs, which were previously only available to big companies for tens or hundreds of thousands of pounds.
VoIP technology makes services such as multiple telephone extensions, music on hold, call divert, and automated options, available for as little as a couple of pounds.
According to Ofcom’s annual Communications Market Report 2007, consumers are increasingly using telephone services over the internet, offered by VoIP providers such as Skype.
In 2006 20 percent of respondents to the survey said they made calls online, compared with only 14 percent in 2005.
