snom technology AG has announced its next-generation handset, the snom klarVOICE.
The wideband handset can be adapted to all snom VoIP telephones, and is said to provide voice quality which is just like talking to someone in the same room.
Compared with standard phones, the handset allows the capture of more than twice the spectrum of voice frequencies, providing enhanced voice quality.
snom klarVOICE works with the G.722.2 PSTN codec which shrinks the bit rate of the voice channel down to 12.65 kbps.
VoIP calls usually use narrowband, where the voice signal is sampled at 8,000 Hz, with an effective voice pass-band of about 200 to 3,300 Hz.
Snom’s new wideband handset offers a doubled sample rate, giving an effective pass-band of 50 to 7,000 Hz.
