Ixia are well known providers of IP performance test systems, and they have now produced a new system, IxRave 3.0 service verification.
This system checks quality and locates problems with VoIP services.
It is intended for use with VoIP that is being received via xDSL, optical or cable networks.
The idea is to wherever possible avoid sending out a technician to locate a problem by remotely identifying the trouble.
Loss of service causes customers to loose faith in the provider and may push them away from that company’s services.
Avoiding problems, or resolving them as quickly as possible, is the best way to avoid customer loss.
The concept of the system is that they will find problems and repair them before the customer even knows that there has been an issue.
Voice quality checks and visual mapping techniques will assist technicians to isolate problems as they occur.
Reconfiguring the network is also a major undertaking and previously it was necessary to manually check the system for faults. This is something the new system can deal with.
IxRave can perform automated test calls or technicians or customer service can also initiate test calling.
They can even test the internal wiring within the house to locate a problem.
The system looks for something called IP metrics, a measurement of quality that is defined by algorithms.
