Infonetics Research’s new category for North America Business VoIP Services Leadership Matrix was slightly shaken up when Verizon Business was placed at the top for IP Centrix and IP connectivity services.

Close finishers that were expected to be at the top of the list instead of Verizon Business included New Global Telecom , Cbeyond, 8×8 and Paetec.

Diane Myers, Infonetics analyst, commented on the surprise finish by stating that although Verizon Business does not have the most IP subscribers or lines in either one of the IP Centrex or connectivity fields, it is a stable company both financially and for line reliability, and has a strong customer support system.

In other words, it may not be the most popular IP provider, but it has a strong reputation among its customers.

Myers went on to state that the top ten finishers are actually all strong competitors, providing excellent service and that all ten of the top finishers will be IP companies to watch in the future as they gain nationwide acclaim.

The survey ranked IP connectivity providers and IP Centrix providers from North America based on their current subscribers, amount of lines, market strategy, support options, service capabilities, and financial stability.

Comcast, the east coast United States VoIP service provider, also had a strong finish this year, despite cutting back VoIP services to focus on other areas of telecommunications, leading Myers to comment that it will be a company to watch in next year’s rankings.
